Type I Walter-Hitzig Award

Type I fellowships provide funding for a short research project during the first two or three years of residency. These are flexible funds designed to cover the salary for a short rotation (3-6 months) in a CCI laboratory to be used to focus the research orientation, or learn specific techniques in an external laboratory or in preparation of a Type II Walter-Hitzig Award. Exceptional basic research scientists interested in pursuing a career in immunodeficiency can also apply for type I support to visit summer schools and other laboratories working in the field of immunodeficiency to learn a specific technique. Applications for these fellowships can be made at any time.

The requirements for acceptance for type I support are:

• A documented interest in immunodeficiency or related field (courses, meeting attendance, patient care)

• A research plan and host group for the anticipated project

• Completed excellent MD thesis or advanced excellent PhD student (biology, molecular medicine etc.)

Applications for type I fellowships should include:

• A written application to the coordinator of education, including CV, publications, motivation letter, a short research proposal with timeplan (max 1500 words) if applicable.

• Two letters of recommendation. Please use the CCI referee forms which can be downloaded here. For those applying to carry out a short project, one of these letters of recommendation should be from the host group leader.

CCI Incubator Referee Form

Applications can be made at any time to the coordinator of education. Type I applications are evaluated by the CCI Education and Research Committee within 4 weeks of receiving the application. Selected candidates have to be approved by the Executive Board and by the Advisory Board and are notified within 6-8 weeks of submission.
