Symposium: Pathogenesis, Diagnosis and Treatment of CVID

December 3rd, 2011, University Hospital Freiburg

Dear Colleagues,

it is a great pleasure to invite you to our international Symposium on Pathogenesis, Diagnosis and Treatment of CVID on Saturday the 3rd of December 2011 endorsed by ESID. In the context of developing a new definition for common variable immunodeficiency we want to discuss with you clinically relevant aspects of this still challenging disease. In the first section Prof. L. Hammarström and Prof. B. Grimbacher will present the current status of genetic analysis, the role of new technologies and their future role in the diagnosis of CVID. The second part will dissect different forms of hypogammaglobulinemia. Prof. M.E. Conley will compare Agammaglobulinemia and CVID and point out clinically relevant differences beyond the absence of peripheral B cells. Prof. A. Plebani will analyze the similarities and differences between childhood and adult onset of CVID. After that I will discuss defects on the cellular and the systemic level on the search for pathogenetic hints and clinically helpful surrogate markers. This will be followed by Prof. E. Oksenhendler’s presentation on late onset combined immunodeficiency (LOCID), a subgroup of CID which falsely fell under the diagnosis of CVID. Finally, Prof. I. Quinti will present the latest evidence on the efficacy of immunoglobulin replacement therapy and the question of individual need.

We hope that this programme is of interest to you and you will join us on the 3rd of December between 9 a.m. and 13:00 p.m.
Further details, location and directions please see under: CVID Programme.

Participation is free of charge. In order to calculate for the buffet we kindly ask for your registration with Beate Roller (beate.roller@uniklinik-freiburg.de) by 31st October 2011. We thank our sponsors BAXTER, CSL BEHRING, GRIFFOLS and OCTAPHARMA for their kind support.

Looking forward to a great symposium!

With best regards,

Klaus Warnatz
