Further training
Further training in the subject neurology
At the Freiburg Epilepsy Centre accreditation for a two-year further training in neurology is available through the section director, Prof Dr. A. Schulze-Bonhage. Assistant doctors receive schooling in the differential diagnosis of paroxysmal neurological diseases (e.g. episodic ataxies, paroxysmal dyskinesia, narcolepsy, syncope, dissociative disorders with non-epileptic, psychogenic seizures, and epileptic seizures). Emphasis of the clinical training is placed on the complex medication-based (both in- and out-patient) treatment of epilepsies, on comprehensive localisation diagnostics of focal epilepsies using video-EEG-long-term registration in an intensive monitoring unit that has five fully digitalised workstations each equipped with 64-128 EEG-channels for the analysis of semiology, interictal and ictal EEG-activity, on multimodal imaging, and on therapeutic intervention by vagal nerve stimulation. The range of further training opportunities is extensive, including internal further training, seminars, colloquia, interdisciplinary case conferences and the participation of experts from the areas of Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery, Neuropathology, Psychosomatics and Psychiatry. In addition to this, active participation in national and international conferences is supported.
EEG-Certificate
Training is possible that leads to the award of the EEG-Certificate (Trainer: Prof. Dr. A. Schulze-Bonhage).
Certificate in Epileptology
The Epilepsie Centre is recognised as a place of further training for the Certificate Epilepsy-plus of the German Section of the International League Against Epilepsy.
European Certification in Epileptology
Given its status as an “Epilepsy centre of comprehensive care”, the Epilepsy Centre Freiburg is an acknowledged institute of further training of the European Epilepsy Academy (EUREPA). After accomplishing the curriculum a member of staff can obtain the European Certification in Epileptology.
