Mision Statement

We are an interdisciplinary workgroup of psychologists, doctors, biologists and physicists. We regard ourselves as colleagues with equal rights, but who work in individual research fields under their own responsibility.

We investigate at a high scientific level the fundamentals and applications of the therapies and therapeutic methods used by the population at large complementarily or as an alternative to orthodox medicine. The question at the centre of our research is whether these processes have a curative and preventive effect.

The principle hypothesis underlying our work is guided by the perception that such therapies are embedded in a complex system encompassing the client/patient and the therapist, as well as the respective environment they occupy, in which self-healing processes can be effectively activated. These topics, which have previously been the subject of little or no research, are investigated within a wide contextual and methodological spectrum. International collaboration is included as an important component of our research. Various explanatory approaches (e.g. specific efficacy and placebo effects) and perspectives (above all system theories) are likewise taken into account.

This makes it possible to approach important questions covering both orthodox and complementary medicine, as well as alternative medicine, at the interface between theory and empiricism, body and consciousness as well as science and spirituality. In doing this, we use established scientific methods, as well as new explanatory models.

Service to human beings stands at the centre of our work. This means that while we do publish our results in the leading scientific journals, scientific transparency demands that the findings and fundamentals of complementary medicine research must also be made available to a broad public.
