Respiratory Muscle Strength, Exercise Physiology and Lung Function Testing
The Respiratory Physiology research group, directed by MD HJ Kabitz, mainly focuses on the evaluation of respiratory muscle function both at rest and during exercise. Thereby, physiological principles of respiratory muscle function, its clinical implications in health, disease and exercise performance are addressed.
State of the art techniques are used for respiratory muscle and exercise testing; these include ergospirometry and volitional tests on respiratory muscle strength (static mouth-occlusion and sniff pressures) in combination with non-volitionally assessed twitch pressures (including transdiaphragmatic pressures) during magnetic phrenic nerve stimulation.
