Dr. Markus B. Blatz, born in 1967, studies Dental Medicine from 1989 to 1994 at Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg, Germany. He received his Dr. med. dent. from the same University in 1998.

He was Assistant Professor from 1995 to 1998 and later Oberarzt (Senior lecturer) in the Department of Prosthodontics at Albert-Ludwigs University School of Dental Medicine in Freiburg, Germany.

In 2000, he became Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, and was promoted in 2004 to Associate Professor with tenure.

He received his specialty degree in Prosthodontics from the German Society of Prosthodontics and Material Sciences (DGPro) in 2001.

From 2004 to 2006, he served as Director of the Masters of Science Program in Oral Biology at Louisiana State University and, in 2005, was appointed Chairman of the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry and Biomaterials and named Assistant Dean for Clinical Research.

Dr. Blatz is Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Chairman of the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, since 2006. This Department comprises the following Divisions: Fixed Prosthodontics, Removable Prosthodontics, Operative Dentistry, General Restorative Dentistry, Dental Material Sciences, Implant Dentistry, Pediatric Dentistry, and Community Oral Health.

He is married and has 4 children.
