Clinic of Prosthodontics I: Fixed & Removable Prosthodontics

General Course Description:

The main objective is to teach dental students a synoptical treatment concept for the prosthodontic rehabilitation of patients with excessive loss of tooth structure and/or teeth with crowns and fixed partial dentures. Participants must have successfully completed the preclinical course in restorative dentistry (Phantomkurs der Zahnerhaltungskunde).

Specific Course Objectives/Outcomes:

1. Diagnosis and treatment planning.

2. Tissue management/ periodontal pre-treatment.

3. Building up lost tooth structure.

4. Crown preparations.

5. Making and adjusting provisional restorations.

6. Impression taking.

7. Facebow and articulator usage.

8. Mounting casts.

9. Laboratory prescription writing and laboratory communication.

10. Fitting and delivering restorations/ prostheses.

11. Recall.

Evaluation Criteria/ Methods:

Knowledge of subject will be evaluated by written examinations. Students must achieve an average on written examinations of 65% or higher to pass this portion of the course. Quality of performance will be evaluated by practical examinations. Students must take and achieve clinically acceptable performances on all practical exams.
