Clinic of Prosthodontics II: Combined and Removable Prosthodontics

General Course Description:
The main objective is to teach dental students a synoptical treatment concept for the prosthodontic rehabilitation of partially or completely edentulous patients with fixed and removable partial or complete prostheses. Participants must have successfully completed the course “Clinic of Prosthodontics I: Fixed Prosthodontics.”
Specific Course Objectives/Outcomes:
1. four half-days per week of self directed, supervised patient treatment.
2. diagnosis and treatment planning; restorative, periodontal and functional pre-treatment (synoptical treatment concept).
3. provisional and definitive fixed and removable or combined prostheses according to treatment plan:
- crowns, fixed partial dentures (bridges)
- removable dentures (clasps)
- fixed-removable dentures (telescopic)
- overdentures
- full dentures
4. laboratory work: wax-up, set-up of planned restoration, making and adjusting provisional restorations.
5. Recall of previously treated patients.
6. Participation in prosthodontic outpatient clinic.
Evaluation Criteria/ Methods:
Knowledge of subject will be evaluated by written examinations. Students must achieve an average on written examinations of 65% or higher score to pass this portion of the course. Quality of performance will be evaluated by practical examinations. Students must take and achieve clinically-acceptable performance on all practical exams.
