Welcome to the homepage of the Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology.
Our department specialises in diseases of the immune system, the system which protects our body against disease.
The most common disorders of the immune system are inflammatory rheumatic diseases in the joints, tendons, muscles and blood vessels. These diseases are also called autoimmune disorders where the immune system reacts against the body’s own structures, setting off chronic inflammation reactions such as redness, swelling and pain in the affected region. Examples are rheumatoid arthritis, vasculitis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
A second group of diseases of the immune system comprises various inborn and acquired deficiencies of the immune system which result in an increased susceptibility to infection. Examples of these are HIV infections and antibody deficiency syndromes.
Our specialists have the most modern facilities available for the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the immune system. We provide both inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services, as well as recommendations for preventative measures for a wide range of immunological conditions. These range from joint rheumatic diseases, connective tissue disease, blood vessel inflammation, to AIDS and inborn immune deficiencies such as CVID.
