Clinical trials at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg – CCCF

One of the research foci at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg – CCCF is so-called “translational” research. What does this mean? For some patients, it becomes clear in the course of treatment that conventional therapies will not lead to the intended result. There are often novel clinical substances available that have not yet been approved. The CCCF tests new substances in clinical trials. We cooperate closely with the Medical Center – University of Freiburg’s Clinical Trials Unit, which was founded in 1997.

Doctors from various disciplines observe patients participating in clinical trials closely and assess whether these new drugs actually help. The drugs have been studied in the laboratory and in animal experiments beforehand.

No clinical trial may be conducted without prior approval from the relevant ethics commission. The ethics commissions include doctors, ethics experts, theologians, jurists, and often patient representatives.
The results of clinical trials conducted at the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg – CCCF benefit all cancer patients. The treatments are documented and the documentation made available to other oncology centers. The doctors monitor the course of the disease and the process of recovery in long-term observations.
