By January 2020 the CRC 1160 of the University of Freiburg is offering within the DFG-funded CRC programme IMPATH (speaker: Prof. Stephan Ehl) and in close collaboration with the IMM-PACT and Berta-Ottenstein-Programmes of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg

Clinician Scientist Position

CRC1160: Immune-mediated pathology as a consequence of impaired immune reactions (IMPATH).
The aim of this structured qualification programme is to provide optimal support to a clinician who is undergoing medical specialist training and who has a clear interest in scientific research focused on immunology. The long-term goal is to develop a young physician-scientist group leader for an integration into the CRC. The programme is designed as a three-year programme supported by mentors at a clinical institution with academic leadership at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. An agreed percentage of working hours (50%) is allocated exclusively for research.
The scientific project has to be connected to one of the projects of the CRC 1160 (www.sfb1160.uni-freiburg.de). The 50% scientific work conducted by the Clinician Scientist is financed by the CRC 1160 for 3 years. The respective supervising department commits to finance the Fellow’s clinical work throughout the programme.

The programme contains three key components: 

  • an excellent scientific research programme (including protected time for research)
  • a continuous mentoring and qualification programme
  • an innovative leadership training programme 

Your electronic application must include:

  • a letter of motivation
  • copies of medical degree, German license to practice, and doctoral degree certificate
  • project outline designed for 3 years. (The project must be prepared in collaboration with a project leader of the CRC.), please read the instructions in the information sheet, which has to be requested from the coordination office
  • signed declaration of support by the director of the clinical department with confirmation of co-financing (50% clinical work) release from patient-care responsibilities (50% over the 3 year period), confirmation regarding the aims and state of the applicant’s medical specialist training and confirmation regarding the necessary infrastructure for conducting research
  • letter of support from the scientific and clinical mentors
Temporary position for 3 years.
