Former Research Questions

Will mind reading ever work?

We do not know, because our micro-tools deteriorate and change in the brain over time.

We need to figure out how they work and how the brain fights them off.

Do robotic rats dream of real cheese?

Can a robot rat act like a real rat?

Build an artificial brain for a rat avatar to make it run around like the real thing!

Do dying neurons smell?

Can we use a chemical sensor to measure Glutamate as a marker of neuron death?

Or can we even release and measure Glutamate under physiological conditions?

How Realistic is Virtual Reality for Rats ? Really ?

Our omni-directional treadmill is waiting to be put to the test.

How close is it to the real deal, how do rats behave differently in a real maze and their "gaming" counterpart.

Can you quantify happiness and welfare?

Our rats play ball for entertainment and health.

Can we quantify their playfulness and use it to our advantage? Can we detect cognitive decay?

Can we produce "patient" (rodent) specific brain implants?

We want to implement "LateX" style adaptations of 3D printable objects.

To quickly produce custom sockets you need to write an editor which generates custom STL files based on given stereotaxic coordinates of rodents. Method of choice:  www.openscad.org/

Are you afraid of "Big Data"?

Machine Learning and Classification on Huge Datasets: Our research produces very diverse data sets from intracranial micro-recordings, multi-electrode slice recordings and 3D video-tracking.
