Research focus

The focus of our research group is on the development, implementation and evaluation of psychotherapeutic interventions and other measures to improve health care of patients with mental disorders – particularly with depression.

Fields of interest

Problem-Solving Therapy: We take large interest in the application of Problem-Solving Therapy in different settings. Problem-Solving Terapy is brief, easy to learn, highly flexible and has a strong evidence base.

Psychoeducation: Psychoeducation in patients and  their relatives is an important intervention to enhance illness related self-efficacy and stabilize treatment outcomes.

Cultural Adaptation: The cultural adaptation of information material and interventions for patients with a migration background are important measures to improve health care.

Telepsychotherapy: Telepsychotherapy, especially Videoconferencing Psychotherapy has a large potential to reach patients in rural and underserved regions. Web-based applications may therefore play a central role to improve health care in regions that are so fare underserved.

Webinar: The implementation of new psychotherapeutic methods is a major challenge to mental health care. Web-based seminars (webinars) have the potential to deliver trainings over large distances. This technology can also be used to conduct large multicenter randomized controlled psychotherapy trials in which the provision of highly standardized trainings is essential. Webinars may also be an efficient and economic instrument to simultaneously provide standardized trainings to multiple study sites.

Populations of central interest

  • migrants
  • elderly
  • patients with diabetes and comorbid depression
  • chronic depression
  • patients in rural regions
  • relatives
  • adults with autism spectrum disorder

Settings of central interest

  • inpatient depression treatment
  • transition between inpatient and outpatient treatment
  • collaborative care
  • primary care
