Gender Equality and measures to promote the compatibility of family and career
The universities of Freiburg and Heidelberg have been ranked in the last DFG assessment in 2013 in the top category 4 concerning the implementation of “Forschungsorientierte Gleichstellungsstandards”, and the TUM and LMU Munich reached category 3. Moreover, the universities have received the TOTAL E-Quality Award (provided by TOTAL E-QUALITY Deutschland e.V.) and the certificate “family-friendly university” (provided by berufundfamilie gGmbH of the Gemeinnützige Hertie-Stiftung).
In Freiburg, several childcare facilities are available that cover the age range three months to six years. They offer longer opening hours than normal public facilities to suite researchers´ working needs.
In Heidelberg, the Student Parents Meeting "Club Parents" is specifically aimed at parents who are studying at Heidelberg University. Moreover, 'KidS – Studying with children' has been established: The Student Service Organization of Heidelberg University offers a wide range of services and measures to support student parents with children between two months and school-starting age.
At TU Munich, the 'TUM.Family – Family, Kids & Elder Care Center' was founded, which is represented at all three TUM locations. In total, TUM has currently more than 200 childcare places available.
