Computer Science - Medical Informatics

Dual study program

Are you interested in computer science, but you also want to work a lot with people? How about a dual study program in computer science - specializing in medical informatics?

In everyday clinical practice, you will work at the interface between medical and technical staff. You will be responsible for the technical integration of medical and diagnostic equipment and will be familiar with network technology, documentation and process control for this equipment.

The theoretical content is taught in cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Karlsruhe.
The course is divided into a three-month alternation between theory and practice. During the theoretical phases, you will study at the DHBW Karlsruhe, while during the practical phases you will gain valuable experience at our site.

The Medical Informatics course lasts three years (6 semesters) and leads to a Bachelor of Science degree.

On the basis of information technology fundamentals (such as an introduction to databases, software engineering and operating systems, communication technology, computer graphics and image processing), the theoretical phases focus in particular on medical, biological and administrative knowledge. This includes in particular anatomy and physiology, medical documentation and biometrics, hospital information systems and medical technology.

Further information is also available on the website of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University.

In the practical part of your training, you will work in various departments of our Centre for Digitization and Information Technology, work in a project team and apply your theoretical knowledge in practice. You will be involved in the planning, selection, integration and maintenance of IT systems and help with the development of software and software modules.
