Social work in the healthcare sector

Dual study program

The Social Work in Healthcare degree program takes place in the field of social services. Social work in healthcare is required when it comes to providing support in the event of illness or care and the need for care. In addition to the patients, providing assistance to relatives is also an area of responsibility. This requires broad knowledge and the skills to be able to act and advise in different situations.

After graduating, graduates can be employed in social services that offer and provide help in dealing with illness, old age and disability to people who are ill or at risk of illness, people in need of care and relatives.

The theoretical content is taught in cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Villingen-Schwenningen.
The course is divided into a three-month alternation between theory and practice. During the theoretical phases, you will study at the DHBW Villingen-Schwenningen, while during the practical phases you will gain valuable experience at our location.

The Social Work in Healthcare course lasts three years (6 semesters) and leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree. The theoretical training takes place at the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University in Villingen-Schwenningen.

The core content of the course includes the general principles of social work (including professional and methodical action), the scientific foundations of social work (education, psychology, sociology), basic skills and course-specific skills (health / illness, care).

During your studies, you will work closely with your supervisor, take on responsibility in the area of counseling and support patients and relatives in planning further steps after their stay in the clinic. You will be in contact with health insurance companies, pension insurance providers, rehabilitation facilities, social care centers and nursing homes.
