Sustainable Science and Technology (SST)
Dual study programAre you interested in medicine and technology and would like to take on responsibility in the areas of radiation protection, occupational safety and the environment?
The dual study program "Sustainable Science and Technology (SST) Occupational Safety - Radiation Protection - Environmental Protection" prepares you for this task and gives you special qualifications to assess and avoid hazards to people and the environment.
The theoretical content is taught in cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Karlsruhe.
The course is divided into a three-month alternation between theory and practice. During the theoretical phases, you will study at the DHBW Karlsruhe, while during the practical phases you will gain valuable experience at our site.
Of course, assuming this responsibility, especially in the application of ionizing radiation in medicine, requires both physical and technical knowledge as well as knowledge of applicable law and the business and organizational conditions.
The course combines mathematical, scientific and engineering content in relation to sustainability. The subject of sustainability is particularly highlighted in the course with regard to the aspects of economy, ecology and society - this requires skills in natural sciences, technologies, law and basic knowledge of economic evaluation (life cycle assessments). In addition, in-depth specialist knowledge is taught in the fields of occupational safety, paper technology, radiation protection, packaging technology and environmental protection technology.
You will complete the practical part of your training in the Medical Physics department of the Nuclear Medicine Clinic. Under the guidance of medical physicists, you will learn how to use ionizing radiation with the latest technical equipment (PET/CT, SPECT/CT) in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and support the clinical routine. During your project work, you will be involved in current research issues in medical physics.
You can find more information about the program on the website of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University Karlsruhe.
