Freiburg, June 27, 2025 - The University Medical Center Freiburg has been named the second-best hospital in Germany in the current 2025/26 list of hospitals published by stern magazine. Only Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin achieved a higher overall rating. This puts the University Medical Center Freiburg in the top position in the entire southern German region.

The ranking is based on the Germany-wide hospital evaluation carried out by stern magazine in collaboration with the independent research institute MINQ. Over 1,600 hospitals and more than 30,000 medical specialists were systematically analyzed and compared for the survey.

Top medicine in a national comparison

The University Medical Center Freiburg particularly fulfills the criteria of the evaluation:

• Patient safety, hygiene and quality of care
• Equipment with modern medical technology
• Recommendations from medical specialistsand patients

The University Medical Center Freiburg was recommended in 41 medical specialties - including key areas such as oncology, cardiac surgery, neurology, intensive care, geriatrics, transplant medicine, psychosomatics and paediatrics.
