Business division 5As a maximum care provider, the University Medical Center Freiburg has extensive and sophisticated building and medical technology equipment and operates its own combined heat and power plant to supply energy to the hospital and other properties. The Technology division ensures the functional and operational safety of all technical facilities, plans and carries out the necessary maintenance measures and primarily supplies the hospital with electricity, heating and cooling from its own generation as well as demineralized water. We also support and advise the hospital management in all matters relating to technical hospital operations, such as the procurement and commissioning of technical systems and equipment.
Department 5.1 is primarily responsible for ensuring energy generation and media supply. The rational and safe use/handling of energy as a resource is of particular importance, taking into account both economic and ecological aspects. Energy optimization processes are applied in successful project work and lead to significant savings in energy and operating costs. The operation of the supply infrastructure is also part of the area of responsibility.

Department 5.2 is primarily responsible for the operation and maintenance of technical infrastructure, equipment and systems engineering in the areas of electrical, water, air conditioning and refrigeration supply, building maintenance and ensuring the automatic transportation of goods. The department and its specialist trades plan, design and implement plant and supply technology projects as part of its maintenance responsibilities.

The Medical Technology department, which is part of the Technology division, is responsible for providing comprehensive medical technology services for the hospital. In addition to carrying out technical tasks such as equipment repairs and maintenance, the department's main tasks also include monitoring compliance with legal regulations, providing procurement advice, concluding maintenance contracts and maintenance controlling in the field of medical technology.

The service control department forms the interface between the clinic and technicians and is the first point of contact for fault reports and user queries in the area of maintenance and new equipment delivery, where all maintenance work that cannot be processed by the department's own technicians after receipt of a "technical service order" is checked for financing and ordered externally. All of the hospital's equipment is also delivered here, its master data recorded, necessary maintenance plans activated in consultation with the specialist departments and prepared for onward transportation by logistics.
Other tasks of the department include the decentralized procurement office, monitoring the maintenance budget and the department's quality management.
