Save paper

Digital signature

Patients can view and sign treatment contracts digitally on a tablet at the registration desk and in many outpatient clinics at the University Medical Center Freiburg

Treatment contracts, optional service agreements or consent to external billing: During their stay at the hospital, patients have to sign important documents time and again. Since May 2024, this has also been possible digitally: the clinics' registration offices and some outpatient clinics are now equipped with tablets that can be used to record and sign important contractual documents quickly and in a legally compliant manner. This completely replaces the paper-based process - printing, signing, scanning and archiving. Instead, the document is pre-filled as a PDF by the employees, displayed on the so-called "Signopad" and signed by the patients in a legally secure manner.

Faster, more compact, more economical

After the digital signature, the document is automatically transferred to the "synedra" system, where it is archived as a legally compliant PDF. This saves processing time, storage space in the archiving system and around 850,000 sheets of paper per year - an impressive stack that, at 85 meters, would be three quarters as high as Freiburg Minster. The changeover was driven forward and successfully introduced in a joint project by Division 2 - Patients and the Centre for Digitization and Information Technology.
