We will also discuss the current status of your professional recognition for Germany.

We would be happy to offer you a work shadowing placement. This will give you an impression of the University Medical Center Freiburg / Bad Krozingen site, the work area and the team on the ward.

Finally, we will reflect together on your impressions, address your personal or individual questions and discuss the next steps.

No problem - here too we will discuss how to proceed. It often makes sense to have a second interview with the responsible nursing service manager / ward manager. This is very helpful for both sides in order to be able to address specific and technical questions.

Note: Find out in advance about working and living in Germany and professional recognition. You can find further helpful links at Useful links and information.

In order to be able to work in Germany in the profession you have learned, you must have your profession recognized. To do this, you must submit an application for professional recognition. The recognition office in Baden-Württemberg is the Stuttgart Regional Council.

Note: The documents and contact persons for the application for recognition of foreign professional qualifications can be found here: Regierungspräsidium Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart

Our common goal is for you to be awarded (in accordance with your training) one of the German job titles

  • Health and pediatric nurse
  • Nursing specialist
  • Midwife/maternity nurse
  • ATA/OTA

through a qualification measure and are recognized under German law.

When applying, you have the option of choosing between an adaptation course and a knowledge test as a qualification measure.

As a maximum care university hospital, we offer the following qualification measures:

  • Knowledge test for recognition as a nursing specialist/health and pediatric nurse, ATA and OTA
  • Adaptation course with examination interview for recognition as a midwife/maternity nurse

We have different requirements for the ATA/OTA (anesthesia technical assistant / surgical technical assistant) recognition process: A German language certificate B2 must already be available at the time of application and several years of professional experience in the field of ATA/OTA is the prerequisite for being able to carry out a qualification measure for professional recognition at our clinic. A deficit certificate from the DKG (German Hospital Association) is not recognized at Freiburg University Hospital.

We will also be happy to advise you on this.

Note: Are you already an employee at the University Medical Center Freiburg and have not yet had your foreign professional qualification recognized? Please contact us (see contact persons)

We have jointly decided to work with you as a new employee? What happens next for you?

First of all, you need to prepare all the relevant documents so that you can leave your country or change your place of work within Germany without any problems. We will support and advise you and provide you with the information you need.

People from 150 different nations currently work at the University Medical Center Freiburg. We would all like to be involved in your integration into everyday life in Germany. We support you, give you advice, insider tips and much more.

Twice a year, we organize events and meetings for international nursing staff as part of the integration process. Not only will you get to know something about Freiburg and the surrounding area, but you will also meet new colleagues who are following or have already followed a similar path to you. We talk about various topics, questions and circumstances that you encounter in your everyday life (professionally or privately). You determine and shape the content of these meetings.

Your language skills are continuously consolidated and deepened through a free German learning program. Thanks to our own German teacher and language examiner for levels B2 to C2, we have the opportunity to prepare for standardized language exams at the University Hospital while working.

In addition, all international employees have the opportunity to receive advice on language development opportunities. We also offer everyone practical support to understand language deficits and find solutions to them.

You can also continue to develop your language skills after receiving your professional certificate and take a C1 language course with us. You can find out more about free German courses here.
