Medical Intensive Therapy Unit (MIT)
The special professional challenge! As a central facility of the University Hospital, we provide care for critically ill patients from all internal medicine disciplines, focusing on the care of patients with the most serious, often life-threatening illnesses. The wards are equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology, including ventilators and extracorporeal procedures such as ECMO or ECLS, and use the entire spectrum of diagnostics and therapy.
The well-being of our patients is at the heart of everything we do. Both our nursing and medical staff guarantee the highest quality of care around the clock. The excellent cooperation and communication within the interprofessional treatment team should be emphasized.
We offer nursing staff the opportunity to participate in the many project groups on the topics of nutrition, mobilization, ECMO therapy or telephoning relatives.
We treat all patients requiring intensive care with internal diseases.
With regard to the treatment of heart disease, we are a supra-regional focus center, which is why we use Impella and VA-ECMO, for example. We treat patients with acquired or congenital heart disease (myocarditis, etc.) as well as patients listed as highly urgent for a heart transplant.
All conventional invasive and non-invasive forms of ventilation are used in respiratory therapy. In the event of particularly severe lung failure, we can partially or completely replace the lungs using extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO center). In cooperation with the Department of Pneumology, we operate a center for ventilation weaning (weaning center).
- Trusting cooperation in a specialized team
- Great colleagues you can rely on at all times
- Consistent 2:1 care for our patients
- Close interdisciplinary collaboration for the benefit of our patients
We work in close cooperation with all internal medicine departments at the University Hospital and the Heart Center.
You can gain an insight into everyday working life in the medical intensive therapy units here.
The professional skills of our employees are important to us. That's why we offer internal specialist training in intensive care .
The aim of our 14-month qualification program is to give you confidence when starting work in the intensive care unit. We would like to qualify you for your work in intensive care, avoid excessive demands and make it easier for you to settle into the working world of intensive care units.
During the practical assignments, the participants are accompanied and supported by experienced qualified staff, practical instructors and the head of the qualification program.
The practical assignments are accompanied by a theoretical qualification. The content includes clinical and equipment monitoring as well as the basics of infusion and medication therapy. The topic of ventilation is covered in greater depth in special "ventilation days".
In addition, regular coaching by the supervision service is integrated into the program. The appointments are mandatory and are taken into account by the responsible managers when planning duties. Participants are released from duty on the ward for this purpose.
Target group: The program is aimed at all new employees who start in the intensive care unit and consciously decide to work on a ward.
