Franz Anton Xaver Hauser

"Hauser V" after Hermann Brommer; * January 23, 1739, Freiburg i. Br.; † January 25, 1819 , Freiburg i. Br., German sculptor.

Like his father Franz Xaver Anton Hauser (1712-1772), he belonged to the great Hauser family of sculptors from Freiburg. He learned his trade in his father's workshop in Freiburg's Nußmannstraße, which he took over after his father's death, but later had to leave due to an inheritance settlement. In 1774, he was accepted into the building guild zum Mond. He married in 1777 and had nine children with his wife. The need to move several times in Freiburg and the early death of his wife in 1795 caused him financial difficulties. His friend and colleague Johann Georg Riescher took over the guardianship of his children. With the help of his three sons, who all became sculptors, Hauser was able to continue running the workshop. After his death, it was taken over by his eldest son Joseph Xaver Hauser (1788-1842) ("Hauser VIa"), who was the last Hauser sculptor to die. His brother and colleague Franz Xaver Hauser ("Hauser VIc") had already died four years earlier.

Franz Anton Xaver Hauser made the majority of his living by creating gravestones.
