Fritz Koenig

* Born June 20, 1924 in Würzburg; German sculptor

Koenig studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts from 1946 to 1952 as a master student of Anton Hiller. Even during his studies, he worked intensively with form-reducing techniques. He took part in numerous major exhibitions in Germany and abroad and received important prizes. Koenig designed the main portal of Würzburg Cathedral (1962-1967) and the seven-meter-high fountain sculpture "Globus" for the Word Trade Center in New York (1967-1972). In 1964 he was appointed to the chair of sculptural design at the Technical University of Munich. Koenig lives in Ganslberg near Landshut.
