Ludwig Kubanek

* February 3, 1877 in Graz; † 1929 in Freiburg im Breisgau; was a sculptor and plasterer from Baden. He received his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich

Ludwig Kubanek completed his studies at the Academy in Munich. He had his studio in Friedhofstraße and was often known for executing the designs of others. For example, he was involved in the creation of Hermann Feuerhahn's allegories at the Stadttheater. In 1911 he produced the group of figures for Max Meckel's "Rau Fountain", in 1912 he realized C. A. Meckel's designs for the "Ox Bridge" and created the "Deer Fountain" on the Bodlesau. The eclectic war memorial in the garden of the Corps Suevia, Lessingstraße 14, is attributed to him by Walter Vetter, but is at least inspired by C. A. Meckel's 113 memorial in the Stadtgarten. In the mid-1920s, Kubanek was considered one of the busiest sculptors in Freiburg, so that he no longer received any public commissions. In 1928, Kubanek was awarded first prize for the design of a war memorial in the main cemetery, but this was not executed. The two hinds and two stags at the former Kyburg in Günterstal are attributed to him by Klaus Poppen; Walter Vetter names Kubanek and Hans Weißburger.
