Kurt Lehmann

* August 31, 1905 in Koblenz; † March 16, 2000 in Hanover; German sculptor

Kurt Lehmann studied sculpture under Prof. Alfred Vocke, architecture under Söder and painting under Dülberg and Kay H. Nebel at the Staatliche Kunstakademie Kassel from 1924 to 1929. After initial successes (Lehmann received the Art Prize of the City of Kassel in 1929, a state scholarship at the Villa Massimo in Rome in 1930 and took part in the exhibitions of the Berlin Secession and the Deutscher Künstlerbund, among others), his artistic work was interrupted by war and military service. In 1949, he was appointed professor in the architecture department of the Technical University of Hanover, where he taught for 21 years. Kurt Lehmann has lived in Staufen since 1970. His works can be seen in museums, on public buildings and in squares in numerous cities. The cityscape of Hanover in particular was shaped by Lehmann; in Freiburg's public space, the "Jüngling" from 1957 can still be found alongside the "Bacchus".
