Artists and artists* born 1924 in Sibiu (Hermannstadt), Romania; German sculptor
Roland Phleps studied medicine in Tübingen and Göttingen from 1945 to 1950. From 1951, he worked as a junior doctor, and from 1959 he worked as a specialist in neurology and psychiatry in private practice in Freiburg. As an artist, Phleps is self-taught. From 1992, he created works in stainless steel and structural steel and had his first solo exhibition of steel sculptures in the park of St. Josef's Hospital in Freiburg in 1993. Further exhibitions followed, including his participation in "sculptura ulm '96" in 1996. Roland Phleps has set up a "sculpture garden" near the Jägerhäusle in Freiburg-Herdern.

Roland Phleps practiced as a neurologist and psychiatrist in Freiburg for decades. Since 1991 he has been realizing his creative ideas in sculptures made of stainless steel sheet, which can be classified as concrete art.
