Otto Vogelbacher

*1869; † 1943; Moulangeur

From 1905, Otto Vogelbacher produced moulages at the Freiburg Dermatology Clinic, where he was trained by the then clinic director, Eduard Jacobi. Vogelbacher expanded and archived the collection of moulages at the Freiburg Dermatology Clinic and produced around 1000 moulages by 1932. He also made duplicates until 1936. In total, he produced around 1200 moulages, of which around 600 are still in Freiburg. Many of the moulages in the Münster collection are duplicates that were produced in 1935/36 for the Würzburg Dermatology Clinic and whose originals were created between 1903 and 1924.

Otto Vogelbacher (1869-1943), a trained decorative painter, produced moulages at the Freiburg Dermatology Clinic from 1905. He was probably trained by the then clinic director Eduard Jacobi himself. Vogelbacher expanded and archived the Freiburg moulage collection, which already comprised 1,000 models in 1932. Despite his retirement in 1935, he continued to produce duplicates of his moulages until 1936. He produced a total of 1,200 moulages, around 600 of which are still in Freiburg (Schnalke 1995). Many of the moulages he made in the Münster collection bear the note on the back: "Duplicate of no. ... from the collection of the University Skin Clinic Freiburg i. Brg.". Presumably these are from the series of duplicates that Vogelbacher produced in 1935/36, primarily for the Würzburg Dermatology Clinic. The inventory numbers given can be found in the catalog of the Freiburg moulage collection (Barlag 1992). The corresponding original templates were created between 1903 and 1924.
