June 20 to August 5, 2011: untitled

Petra Blocksdorf

The "untitled" fantasy creatures (egg tempera on canvas) from 2010 and 2011 do not deserve a title, as they are given one by the viewer. The small-format reptile - an albino - mongoose? - stands opposite the large-format dyptichs. This long since secularized sacred altar form lends the creatures something mysterious. Are they endemic white-furred animals from the north of Greenland?

Alexander Wolff and Angela Flaig

The figurations of the mixed media paintings (DIN A4 format) dating from 2010 come together to form a complex whole. The viewer is encouraged to jump from one picture to another, as if he could expect interpretative help from the next painting. But they are dependent on themselves to read this figurative narrative. He memorizes his own story in front of the picture wall. Angela Flaig's thistle cylinder - which can also be seen in variations in the showcases in the entrance hall - is likely to have an inspiring effect on the entire exhibition. Is it a sculpture, a column segment made of air? The cylinder looks like a musical instrument in which melodies are hidden and not yet born. Only the eye can free the sounds, can bring the figurations and furry creatures out of their frames - prisons.

Elisabeth Endres

The mixed media works from 2009 combine fantasy structures with objects and body parts. Visitors are invited to create their own image by unraveling and rearranging the structures. This can only succeed if you are prepared to spontaneously assign a motto to the "o.T." based solely on your feelings. The longer you linger in front of the pictures and devote yourself entirely to the subject matter, the more you discover an artistic parallel world that casts a spell over you.
