Joachim Czichon
May 5 to August 22, 2014: Joachim Czichon, PaintingIf you compare Czichon's large-format painting entitled "Herzorientiert" from 1998 (140x200 cm) with a detail from "Weiße Torsi" from 2013 (130x90 cm), then it quickly becomes clear how masterfully he is able to continually extract new graphic variations from his style. On the surface, it is all about hatching, lines or circular and curved shapes. These are set off and marked in color so that the viewer's eyes find anchors to orient themselves in the picture.
But there's more going on. Much more! The structures of the lines become denser and gain plasticity in contrast to the color elements. It seems that two pictures meet and enter the artistic stage arm in arm. The juxtaposition is transformed into a togetherness.
This becomes obvious when you walk through the pictures in the back hallway - towards the couple from 2002 (220x100 cm). The triplet from 2013 (cropped on the left) has a seductive effect and wants to sweep you into the figurative vortex. Something similar could be said of the subsequent painting Contacts from 1994. Full of color and movement, they push towards the couple and come together there - albeit in an orderly and well-behaved manner.
Why not let yourself be inspired by such or similar stories? Perhaps every now and then there are concrete figures or events that have crossed the artist's mind. In any case, this picture is entitled Man with raised arms and is dated 2002 (10x160 cm). But that's just the title ... the story itself is still waiting to be told.
Finally, don't miss the chance to take a look at Czichon's ceramics in the entrance hall. The works date from 2013.
