July 7 to September 8, 2002: Sculptures

Works by Stephan Hasslinger will be exhibited from July 7 to September 8, 2002. His sculptures, already entitled "Spitze - Masche - Lack", combine ornamental structures with architectural forms in an imaginative way. The filigree patterns, sometimes reminiscent of Gothic tracery, appear unstable, but are stabilized by internal support systems. The tall stelae pile up in segments. The asymmetrical patterns create a peculiar dynamic that increases as the viewer walks towards or around the sculptures.

In addition to the steles, the small and medium-sized "hanging objects" or the bizarre "shoe shapes" are particularly striking. The associations usually tend towards the organic. One almost always believes to recognize a tangle of branches and blossoms in the ornamental. The solidity of his slender filigree towers is objectively verifiable, but he suggests a balance between architectural form and moving ornament. Born in Marburg in 1960, the artist studied sculpture at the art academies in Bremen and Berlin. Various scholarships enabled him to study and work in England and Holland. In 1999, he was awarded the "Rieselfeld district artists' scholarship, Freiburg". Stephan Hasslinger lives and works in Freiburg.

The individual segments of the steles are transported from the vehicle to be assembled in the showrooms.

A surprisingly large number of guests attended the vernissage on the warm and sunny Sunday morning. Lively discussions. Interesting conversations. The artist was present.
