Günther Holder and Bertold Mathes

For the opening on Sunday, February 1, 2004, Anke Ohnmacht-Döling played pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach and Isang Yun on the violin. On the wall was a monumental wooden sculpture by Günther Holder.

After a welcoming address by former director Bernhard Grotz, curator Beate Hill-Kalusche explained the exhibition concept and outlined the work of the two artists Holder and Mathes.

Hill-Kalusche made it clear that this was more than just an exhibition. Together with the artists, she created an exciting installation of pictorial objects and paintings. The space takes on a new dimension as an aesthetic stage for experience. The different works relate to each other and convey a new sense of space in the entrance hall and on the attic floor.

Günther Holder designed his "Papillon" in 2003 especially for the concave wall in the entrance hall.

The "anatomy of a tree" shines through in his wooden works. He transforms natural structures into his own aesthetic forms.

Mathes' large-format works resemble a constructivist game of color and structure. Although two-dimensional, the abstract compositions look like spatial pictorial architectures.
