Ben Hübsch
October 27 to December 8, 2014Back to constructivism! Long live geometry! This is the first impression on entering the attic floor of the Heart Center. But this impression is deceptive, and you soon realize it - it fades away like melting snow in the sun.
In the cross corridor at the latest, you discover worlds of color and form and are secretly delighted to have shed the box and drawer thinking that initially imposed itself on you. Suddenly, one stands before the pictures with washed eyes and delights in their colorful splendor. Does it stay that way or do irritations creep into the senses? Why do the paintings appear so colorful without being decorative and so effective without appearing gimmicky?
This noble and dissimilar pair of twins have decisively set themselves apart from the imprint of their constructivist grandparents, having struggled for a long time to find a new perspective that they still find difficult to define. In any case, they feel comfortable in their new clothes and are happy to share this with the viewer.
Modernism as a stepping stone with all the intermediate stages leading up to the beginning of the 21st century offers a wide range of possibilities for combining contrasting shapes and patterns. It seems almost a cheeky challenge to confront the well-placed and warm-colored stripes with a cool, sandy and somehow technical-looking cylinder, as if it had the say in the composition. At this point, the artistic sound barrier is broken and the viewer looks into a new, unprecedented and incomparable world of art. And this show is credible, as the preceding pictures have documented the path and the constant acceleration towards the new.
