Eva Rosenstiel

January 25 to March 4, 2016

Eva Rosenstiel, born in 1951, is one of those artists who prefer to seek the exoticism of closeness - a superficial closeness in the truest sense of the word. She has entitled the two flower paintings above left and right "Neues von Blumen" (oil/photography on Aludibond, 40x60 cm, 2015). The focus is on leaves and blossoms, on coloration and composition, rather than on the natural ambience. The flowers have found a new existence in her pictures.

The two large-format paintings on the left (catalog III, catalog II oil/photography on Aludibond, 120x120 cm, 2013) are composed of miniature paintings, probably in order to give each individual motif a special presence. "Chance hits of proximity" are gathered here. It is astonishing how harmoniously they get along with each other, the shoe with the dog and the flower with the fish.

Sometimes the small world hides in a meadow or can be proudly displayed in a frame - such as the little bear or the Barbie doll (catalog XI, V.I.A.S. oil on canvas, 120x140 cm, 2015).

And where can we find this miniature monster? Look for the title "Catalog VIII" (oil on canvas 85x120 cm, 2013) in the exhibition. Incidentally, there are other little gems to be found there.

Perhaps it was her diverse studies (textile design, art history, art education and painting at the academy in Karlsruhe) that set the artist on her path (from 1970 to 1981).

Recognition did not fail to materialize: Scholarships to Paris (2009 and 2014) and Florence (2014), among others, as well as the Kunstverein Rastatt Art Prize (2011). Eva Rosenstiel lives and works in Freiburg.
