Elisabeth Endres and Reiner Seliger

Elisabeth Endres, born in Karlsruhe in 1947, understands the vibrations of the soul, which she is able to concretize aesthetically. First of all, it is the word, the poetic word, which she lets revolve within her in order to draw creative possibilities from it. The thought of a poet, perhaps also the inner sound of words, unfolds her artistic spectrum. Written words clothe figurative compositions. Both come together to form a complex whole: "Ut pictura poesis!" As the word, so the picture!

In the exhibition, we encounter a new group of works by the artist. Over the course of the past year, she has set about painting over sheets from old auction catalogs. At first it was the precious handmade paper that appealed to her haptic sense, then she discovered compositional possibilities in the motifs, lettering and in the additive juxtaposition of the objects. From this, a new aesthetic pattern was formed internally, which she transformed into her own work of art using her own artistic means.

Reiner Seliger, born in Löwenberg / Silesia in 1943, is a master of landscape design - if you can call it that! His sculptural works made of brick seem to grow out of the landscape like a natural structure, only to reveal themselves as a "cultural motif" in the middle of a park or in front of a wooded area. The stele- or balloon-shaped structures do not appear foreign, as they evoke associations with dwellings of any kind. For example, the brick structure from 1997 in the Seprais sculpture park in Delémont (left illus.) resembles a monumental termite mound. However, the layered bricks also suggest a house for strange creatures.

The transformation of a park through Seliger's objects is fascinating. The warm red-brown tones and the clear stereometric forms contrast with the moving shapes of the trees and bushes and the resulting colors of light and shadow. Seliger's objects define the landscape - or at least sections of the landscape - as aesthetically tangible areas.

Vernissage

Dr. Ehrenfried Kluckert gave suggestions for viewing the sculptural objects by Reiner Seliger and the paintings by Elisabeth Endres: to Seliger: "They could be landmarks that unfold their aesthetic effect in the light of nature", to Endres: "The motifs challenge your imagination. Let the picture itself tell you the story!"
