Chris Popovic

October 9 to December 4, 2005: Painting

Chris Popovic studied art and mathematics in Ludwigsburg and Stuttgart. What a combination of studies! The idea is to combine the "clarification of form" with the "development of emotions". The artist and art teacher seems to have succeeded in this. The concept is coherent: She was inspired by constructivism to create dynamic pictorial structures in order to give the painting a new artistic twist: she selects upholstery fabrics for mattresses and stretches them on stretcher frames. The material merges with the structure by means of color processing. But also "snapshots", which show sections of beds, are skillfully combined and brought into the picture - whether with acrylic or with oil.The stay in front of her works is pleasant - not only because it promises a feast for the eyes, but because we are gently reminded that we spend a large (if not the largest) part of our lives in bed. The artist lives and works in Staufen.

The artistic spark from the voluminously painted bed leaps over into the sublimely constructed bed sculpture with mini hinges. Or should we speak of a bed model that could be used as an "extra bed" in hotels or guest rooms?

The ironic aspect plays along in quiet tones ...

The arrangement of the double boxes creates exciting perspectives. Viewers can create their "own image of the bed" and decide whether they are looking at a constructivist sculpture or a surreal furniture store window.
