Anja Vollmer
October 22 to December 1o.T., acrylic on cotton, 2006
The "untitledness" of Anja Vollmer's large-format paintings is given meaning by the fact that one is not necessarily inclined to look for a title while viewing them. The large-scale pictorial structures refer to objects which, in themselves, resemble constructivist compositions. These compositional elements are put together like mosaic stones and at first glance result in a "chaotic harmony", a confused interplay of color elements and fragments of objects which, on closer inspection, miraculously organize themselves into a tense and compact pictorial form - hence the "chaotic harmony" according to the aesthetic calculation of "coincidentia oppositorum", the joining together of opposites.
