Alfons Weiss
2008
n.d., acrylic/cotton, 160x140 cm, 2007

Weiss has inserted collage-like text passages into many of the pictures. These are self-reflective statements: "How do I write the text that I am currently writing?" This thought could be transferred to his compositions. The order of the text determines the syntax of the picture text.

Weiss understands collages as an ordering system of pictorial symbols that are embedded in tachist formations.
While in his earlier works from 2001 to 2005, iconic signs are listed in a strict grid that come together to form a harmonious composition, in his most recent works he integrates figurative elements into abstract areas that flow into one another. Leitmotifs such as portraits, house facades or beetles dominate and can be understood as "private myths".
