Michael Wiesinger

May 2 to June 20, 2004: Visagen

In the course of the 20th century, constructivism developed in part into a "play with dimensions". In order to perceive the surface as space, a central perspective projection is no longer required, but rather the combination of planar elements in spatial situations.

Michael Wiesinger is a master of the "ars inveniendi", the art of finding and inventing. His pictorial constructs unfold, as it were, between the dimensions: The real place, the specific spatial situation must be found in order to be redefined with the help of the artifact. The space is transformed into an art space, even if only a part of it has been changed.

The Hungarian musicians Zsolt Nemeth (on piano) and Tibor Szüts (on violin) from Bad Krozingen played pieces by Bach, Fischer and Massenet. On the wall two of the seven collages from 1999 (mixed media, 50x50 cm).

In his speech, Hans-Joachim Müller surprised us with an imaginative but "unerring" variation on Arnold Schmidt's melancholy cloud dreams. In the cloud cinema above us, we discover figures and faces. Here, in the "House of Healing", the aim is to make out the visages in the constructions. According to Müller, the roots of "Wiesinger Constructivism" lie with Schwitters, in his cheerful compositions and constructions. The "visages" are familiar to Dada and a little mocking - sometimes like a gray-yellow frieze.

The group of works exhibited on the attic floor, "Visagen" (acrylic on wood, 40x40 cm), were created in 2004.
