The Institute of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Department of Molecular Embryology of the Albert-Ludwigs-University is looking for the research group of Prof Dr Christian Schachtrup to start on 01.09.2025 a
PhD Student (m/f/d)
It has shown that the interface between brain, vasculature and immune system is a dynamic player in brain diseases. Our research focuses on cellular and molecular neuroscience, with a particular interest in understanding the role of blood-derived factors in scar formation and wound healing in the brain.
We are investigating the complex interplay between the altered cellular environment after a vascular injury of the brain and the activation of immune cells and scar forming cells in order to understand the mechanisms that hinder neurorepair in mouse model of stroke and trauma. Furthermore, we are modelling the brain-vascular-immune interface in human organoids to develop therapies for promoting neurorepair.
Our projects are regularly supported by third-party funding, for example from the German Research Foundation.
To ensure that we fulfil our high standards on a daily basis, we look forward to your scientific expertise - preferably with you!
Requirements:
- above-average degree in natural science (M.Sc.) with very good results
- high-quality publications
- ideally extensive neurobiological and neuroscience knowledge and extensive experience in relevant methods such as neuronal cell cultures, biochemistry or microscopic (confocal) analysis methods
- animal work and surgery experience
- ideally already experience in presenting data
- very good team player
We offer you:
- challenging and exciting field of activity in a small and international group of scientifically interested colleagues
