The Institute of Medical Biometry and Statistics is looking as soon as possible for a

Student Assistant for SMART Master Lab Organization (m/f/d)

The Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1597 Small Data at the Institute of Medical Biometry and Statistics brings together researchers from a variety of disciplines, including statistics, mathematics, computer science, and biomedicine, to tackle the challenges of data analysis in small data settings. Withing the CRC we have a structured doctoral program called SMART. We are currently seeking a motivated Student Assistant to aid in coordinating the SMART Master Lab Program and other SMART related tasks. The Master Lab program allows Master’s students to gain hands-on experience working on collaborative projects under the supervision of leading professors from various faculties at the University of Freiburg.

Your role:

  • you will support the coordination of the SMART Master Lab, ensuring smooth communication and organization for students and faculty alike
  • assist in preparing communication materials related to Master Lab recruitment (visuals/posters, website and linked in post) 
  • maintain and update databases or spreadsheets tracking student applications and required documentation
  • track project timelines (Kick off, progress seminars, etc.), deadlines, and deliverables
  • Monitor, organize, and respond to email correspondence in a timely manner
  • tracking, organizing and coordinating student participation in SMART Master Lab events
  • general administrative support, such as scheduling meetings and maintaining documentation

Your qualifications:

  • good organizational and communication skills
  • detail-oriented and reliable with a proactive mindset
  • ability to work independently with prior instructions and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • proficiency in English (German is an asset)
  • prior experience with event organization, coordination or administrative task 
  • confidence handling communication with diverse stakeholders
  • interest in interdisciplinary research and collaboration

Desirable (Not Mandatory):

  • experience with survey platforms such as REDCAP
  • basic familiarity with scripting (e.g. simple form logic in REDCap)
  • experience in academic environments 
 
The working hours will be ideally 40 hours per month, and the employment contract will initially be for one year, with possibility of extension.
