Five years ago today, the new emergency department opened at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg / Around 214,000 patients have been treated since then

Cheering employees in front of the University Emergency Center (UNZ): Today, to the day, they are celebrating the fifth anniversary of the new interdisciplinary emergency department at the Medical Center - University of Freiburg. Since its opening in 2012, the UNZ has combined surgical and internal emergency medicine in one place.

Around 100 employees are available around the clock, 365 days a year, for seriously ill or seriously injured patients. And they trust in the competence and friendliness of the interdisciplinary emergency team, as the numbers of outpatient visits are constantly increasing. While there were 38,000 patients in 2013, around 48,000 seriously injured or seriously ill patients came to the University Emergency Center in 2016. With a total of around 214,000 patients treated in the last five years, almost every inhabitant of Freiburg's current population of around 224,000 came to the UNZ once.
