Donations against blindness
The "Friends of the University Eye Clinic Freiburg e.V." association is asking for support for a seriously ill patient from Russia
The "Friends of the University Eye Clinic Freiburg e.V." association is supporting a patient from Russia who has been operated on many times over the past 18 years by Professor Dr. Thomas Reinhard, Medical Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Freiburg Medical Center. The 38-year-old survived an attack with sulphuric acid in 1999, in which she suffered severe burns all over her body, has since undergone more than 200 operations and lost an eye. The cornea of the second eye, which was also corroded by the acid, has to be transplanted every four to five years at the University Eye Hospital. Now a severe herpes virus infection (cytomegalovirus infection) has infected this eye.
Supporters are still being sought for the urgent operation due to the infection and the costs of further treatment. Without the operation at the Department of Ophthalmology in Freiburg, the patient will lose her sight completely.
Donations can be made to the Friends of the University Eye Clinic e.V. with the reference "Donation" to the account IBAN DE71 6805 0101 0012 3732 51 at Sparkasse Freiburg, BIC FRSPDE66XXX.
The "Förderverein Freunde der Universitäts-Augenklinik e.V." has set itself the goal of providing patients with the best possible treatment, regardless of their origin or financial security. It is also involved in promoting research.
