Anesthesiology Intensive Care Unit (AIT)

The special professional challenge!

Our day-to-day work is varied and includes the perioperative treatment of patients from different surgical specialties or with polytrauma. The age spectrum ranges from infants to the elderly. Our employees are also involved in in-hospital emergency management, particularly in the treatment of difficult airways.

We see ourselves as a team - regardless of profession and hierarchies. It is important to us to work closely with our doctors, MTAs, physiotherapists and other professional groups in the interests of our patients. This also includes our daily early morning meeting and the associated joint daily planning as well as our weekly cross-professional case discussions.

The nursing tasks on our ward are diverse and very varied due to the different illnesses of our patients. We attach great importance to ensuring that our patients are as awake as possible and consistently rely on sedation-free intensive care. Early mobilization of our patients is also important to us.

  • Lung replacement procedure (ECMO),
  • Extracorporeal Life Support System (ECLS, circulatory assisted),
  • advanced hemodynamic and neurological monitoring,
  • innovative forms of ventilation and weaning concepts
  • Bridging for lung transplantation
  • Concept for the early mobilization of patients

We are a team - regardless of profession and hierarchies!

  • Nursing staff and doctors work closely together in shifts
  • our team has the opportunity to organize its own duty roster
  • we carry out ward rounds together three times a day, discuss cases in our weekly case conferences and also hold end-of-life discussions (Dession) as a team, for example
  • we see ourselves as intensive therapists and have the freedom to design treatment plans independently in consultation with other professions
  • we hold weekly in-house training courses
  • we implement innovative nursing projects

The professional skills of our employees are important to us. That's why we offer internal specialist training in intensive care .

The aim of our 14-month qualification program is to give you confidence when starting work in the intensive care unit. We would like to qualify you for your work in intensive care, avoid excessive demands and make it easier for you to settle into the working world of intensive care units.

During the practical assignments, the participants are accompanied and supported by experienced qualified staff, practical instructors and the head of the qualification program.

The practical assignments are accompanied by a theoretical qualification. The content includes clinical and equipment monitoring as well as the basics of infusion and medication therapy. The topic of ventilation is covered in greater depth in special "ventilation days".

In addition, regular coaching by the supervision service is integrated into the program. The appointments are mandatory and are taken into account by the responsible managers when planning duties. Participants are released from their duties on the ward for this purpose.

Target group: The program is aimed at all new employees who start in the intensive care unit and consciously decide to work on a ward.
