Pediatric intensive care units
The special professional challenge! We care for critically ill infants, children, adolescents and young adults who require intensive therapy, treatment and monitoring due to their illness.
In addition to intensive care and medical treatment, our ward focuses on involving the entire family in the treatment process. In this way, we guarantee optimal care for patients and their families. We also provide the in-hospital emergency team for the pediatric clinic.
The focus is on the treatment of patients with impaired lung function, who can be treated with various ventilation methods (including NIV, HFO, NO therapy). Setting up and optimizing home ventilation is also part of the intensive care unit's remit and is carried out in collaboration with our colleagues in paediatric pneumology. Another focus is the implementation of renal replacement procedures, both for patients with kidney failure and for intoxications or metabolic imbalances, which is possible at any age.
Immunosuppressed children or children with chronically severe illnesses can be cared for in two single rooms. Patients with special infection situations can be cared for in accordance with hygiene guidelines. Essential diagnostic options (gastroscopy, bronchoscopy) and minor surgical procedures are possible on our ward. There is also an MRI scanner available for our intensive care patients.

Become part of our care team!
We are part of the Clinic for General Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine and work closely with the various departments of the Center for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. Our ward has ten intensive care beds. As our work is very demanding and challenging, we attach great importance to the support of our staff, who give their best every day.
The professional skills of our employees are important to us. That's why we offer specialist training in pediatric intensive care internally.
The aim of our 14-month qualification program is to give you confidence when starting work in the intensive care unit. We would like to qualify you for your work in intensive care, avoid excessive demands and make it easier for you to settle into the working world of intensive care units.
During the practical assignments, the participants are accompanied and supported by experienced qualified staff, practical instructors and the head of the qualification program.
The practical assignments are accompanied by a theoretical qualification. The content includes clinical and equipment monitoring as well as the basics of infusion and medication therapy. The topic of ventilation is covered in greater depth in special "ventilation days".
In addition, regular coaching by the supervision service is integrated into the program. The appointments are mandatory and are taken into account by the responsible managers when planning duties. Participants are released from duty on the ward for this purpose.
Target group: The program is aimed at all new employees who start in the intensive care unit and consciously decide to work on a ward.
