Blood donation center launches campaign to increase donor numbers / Also campaign for Resuscitation Week

Let good things grow! This is the motto of the new campaign by the Blood Donation Center at the Freiburg University Medical Centre. From September 16 to October 31, 2019, blood donors can become MultiBLUTkators and motivate other people to donate blood as part of the campaign. "We want to playfully encourage blood donors to recruit other people in their circle of acquaintances to donate blood," explains Dr. Markus Umhau, Medical Director of the Blood Donation Center at the Freiburg University Medical Center. As a thank you, all MultiBLUTkators will receive a small, growing surprise. And attractive prizes will be raffled off among all participants at the beginning of November. "It is well known that the willingness of the population to donate is declining nationwide. With the 'Let good things grow' campaign, we want to encourage people in Freiburg and the region to increase the number of donors now."

The Blood Donor Center is also offering blood donors resuscitation training during the waiting period to mark 'Resuscitation Week', which begins on 16 September 2019. This way, everyone can save two lives.

Donated blood is primarily needed for the treatment of people with cancer. But it can also be vital for major operations and after serious accidents. The University Hospital alone needs 30,000 whole blood donations a year to care for patients. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 68 (first-time donors up to the age of 60) and weighing more than 50 kilograms can donate. Three blood products can be produced from each whole blood donation. This means that one donation can help several people. Men can donate blood every 8 weeks, women every 12 weeks. Please bring your identity card and, if possible, your vaccination card with you every time you donate.

Monday and Tuesday 8 am to 3 pm 
Wednesday and Thursday 12 pm to 7 pm 
Friday and Saturday 8 am to 1 pm
