New Medical Director of the University Women's Hospital
Breast and abdominal cancer expert wants to promote minimally invasive procedures and customized therapies / Focus on family obstetrics to be further expanded
Prof. Dr. Ingolf Juhasz-Böss (43) has been the new Medical Director of the Department of Gynaecology at the Freiburg University Medical Centre since October 1, 2019. He succeeds Prof. Dr. Gerald Gitsch, who headed the clinic for 18 years. Juhasz-Böss studied human medicine in Giessen and, after working at the university hospitals in Regensburg and Tübingen, worked at the University Women's Hospital in Homburg, Saarland. He has held the position of Deputy Clinic Director there since 2012. Juhasz-Böss is an expert in the treatment of breast and abdominal cancer and is intensively involved in the further development of minimally invasive surgical techniques.
"Thanks to more gentle procedures, we can now preserve much more breast tissue during tumor surgery than was the case a few years ago. This is a great relief for the women affected," says Juhasz-Böss, who was head of the gynecological cancer center and the oncological outpatient clinic at the University Women's Hospital Homburg. In order to make certain gynecological operations even more gentle, Juhasz-Böss would also like to establish robot-assisted surgical procedures at the University Medical Center Freiburg. In addition, he would also like to further advance the possibilities of tailor-made therapy for gynaecological tumors. Family obstetrics is also to be further expanded. "My aim is to offer expectant parents both cutting-edge medicine and a family-friendly birth. This way, they can give their child a sense of security and a carefree start to life from the very first moment," says Juhasz-Böss. "First of all, I'm looking forward to getting to know my patients and my new colleagues both inside and outside the hospital," says Juhasz-Böss.
