The Blood Donation Center of the University Medical Center Freiburg thanks donors with Christmas market vouchers / The campaign runs until Monday, 23 December

"You can't imagine what the transfusions mean for me and my family. Thank you very much for your work. Please pass on my thanks to the donors too."

The team at the Freiburg University Medical Center's Blood Donation Center receives these and similar, usually very moving words. Especially during the Advent season, the staff at the blood donation center are happy to pass on their thanks to the donors: all donors who come to donate by Monday, December 23rd will receive a voucher for a mulled punch or mulled wine at the Freiburg Christmas market.

"The following still applies: blood cannot be produced artificially. And day after day, year after year, countless people need blood products to survive or recover," explains Dr. Markus Umhau, Medical Director of the Blood Donation Center at the Freiburg University Medical Center. Around 80 percent of all people need the help of blood donors in the course of their lives. Despite this, the willingness to donate blood has been declining throughout Germany for years. "We appeal to everyone in Freiburg and the region: take an hour of your time and come and donate. It could save another person's life!" says Umhau.

Opening hours of the Blood Donation Center at Freiburg University Medical Center: 
Monday and Tuesday, 8 am to 3 pm
Wednesday and Thursday, 12 pm to 7 pm
Friday and Saturday, 8 am to 1 pm
The Blood Donation Center is closed from 24 December to 26 December and on 31 December 2019 and 1 January 2020.

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 68 can donate (first-time donors up to the age of 60). Men can donate blood every 8 weeks, women every 12 weeks. An identity card and, if possible, a vaccination card must be brought along for every blood donation.
