Test subjects wanted for app-based physical training for long- and post-COVID

Physical and psychological effects to be investigated / Prospective students can register now

Researchers at the University Medical Center Freiburg are investigating how an app-based training program can help long-term and post-COVID sufferers to improve their physical and mental health. The program combines breathing exercises, strength and endurance training as well as relaxation sessions and is fully guided by an app, with the initial examination and follow-up taking place at the Institute of Exercise and Occupational Medicine at the University Medical Center Freiburg.

"We want to help people with long- and post-COVID to improve their quality of life. The digital training enables flexible participation regardless of location," explains Prof. Dr. Peter Deibert, Medical Director of the Institute of Exercise and Occupational Medicine at the Freiburg University Medical Center and project manager for the Freiburg study site. The study is being conducted in cooperation with the University Hospitals of Heidelberg, Tübingen and Ulm.

Study design and participation requirements

The 16-week study comprises three examination periods and an 8-week app-supported training program. Participants must be between 18 and 65 years old, have a medically diagnosed long/post COVID syndrome, live in the Freiburg region and own a smartphone. Pregnant women, people with acute serious illnesses or who have given birth within the last eight weeks are excluded. Physical activity should be possible without corresponding subsequent symptoms (PEM, post-exertional malaise).
