The University Heart Center at Freiburg University Hospital and Emmendingen District Hospital are expanding their joint patient care services

The University Medical Center Freiburg and Emmendingen District Hospital have agreed to cooperate in cardiology and cardiovascular surgery in order to further improve the care of patients with cardiovascular diseases. The partnership enables close integration between cutting-edge medicine at the University Heart Center Freiburg - Bad Krozingen and local care in Emmendingen. Patients benefit from short distances, fast diagnostics and optimally coordinated treatment.

"Our aim is to provide patients with optimal care both locally and, where necessary, through highly specialized university medicine," says Prof. Dr. Frederik Wenz, Chief Medical Director of the University Medical Center Freiburg. "We are already fulfilling what the recently passed hospital reform will increasingly demand in the future. We are thus making the healthcare network in South Baden even more fit for the future."

High-quality care through specialization and cooperation

For patients, this means Complex cases are referred quickly and safely to Freiburg University Hospital, while basic and standard care procedures can be carried out close to home in Emmendingen. "The cooperation brings university expertise directly to the region and guarantees optimal care for every case," says Prof. Dr. Peter Hafkemeyer, Head of Internal Medicine at Emmendingen District Hospital. "We are thus taking another important step towards further strengthening healthcare in the district of Emmendingen," adds Armin Müller, Managing Director of Emmendingen District Hospital.

The collaboration includes round-the-clock emergency care, regular case conferences and quality circles to continuously maintain and improve the quality of care. "The cooperation focuses on the needs of patients and combines the highest quality with local proximity," adds Prof. Dr. Dirk Westermann, Medical Director of the Department of Cardiology and Angiology at Freiburg University Hospital. In addition to cardiology, the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery (Medical Director: Prof. Dr. Martin Czerny) at the Freiburg University Medical Center is also involved in the cooperation.
